Engelmann Oak Pendant - PRE ORDER
The Engelmann Oak is one of California's stately endemic oaks. Indeed, the Engelmann oak is one of the rarest trees in North America, an ancient relic of a gentler climate and pre-european contact. It is the most northerly ranging sub-tropical oak, and a relative of the blue oaks; which may be easily guessed by the casual botanist by it's round leaves.
This tree is the backbone of a nearly vanished world of dew soaked needlegrass and bunchgrass meadows, fed by ocean mists and protected from frost by southerly latitude. The Santa Rosa Plateau in Southern California is the last stronghold for these beautiful trees and their welcoming meadows. Their leaves are leathery and durable, and take exceptionally well to my process for transforming them into silver.
This pendant was made with one of the leaves I collected off the ground when I lived in the area in 2017, and represents some of my older work that has aged well, although all credit goes to the oak. The master copy was created in fine silver.
Choose between bronze, and sterling silver, and either a sterling silver snake chain, or a dark oil deerhide cord.
Silver is shown - for this first preorder a bronze example is not yet available.
